Women Protecting Women
This is an AMFI-project for the second year, second semester. Here we focused on designing for a brand, in this case Balenciaga. The first fase we worked in groups and in the second fase we worked individually.
During the first fase we were placed in groups and together we researched the brand Balenciaga, the Zeitgeist and started working on the forming of a concept.
This concept became: Women Protecting Women.
In the second fase I am made a collection of 10 looks from which I made 3 garments in real life.
I took the concept of Women Protecting Women and combined this with my own personal fascination: The story of Giulia Tofana, an Italian women from the 17th century who sold poison to women who needed to get out of abusive marriages.
I translate this inspiration into abstract natural shapes, the color black and red, protective elements, hidden pockets and transformational garments.
During this project I specialized in craft, and in this case different variations on Boutis and Cording.

Women Protecting women
We live in a patriarchal society, and we have been for a long time. This has had negative consequences for women all over the world. We are vulnerable to violence against women, both by men and women.
It can be rape, physical abuse, abuse of power and emotions. Women fighting for that one job, men, place in society.
But there is also a different movement, of women supporting each other, protecting each other.
That is how we came to our concept of women protecting women. In this we found our own fascinations.
- Military women, in history and now.
- The Italian, Giulina Tofana, who protected women from men with poison.
- The Viking women, a powerful female warrior.. unrecognized by history
- The female inventors, who gave women support and protection by science.
